89 Hanoverian riding horses were sold at an average price of Euro 14,743 at the Hanoverian Summer Auction in the well-attended Niedersachsenhalle. The first horse of the collection was the top-priced horse of the day. The Welser/Buenos Aires-son Werner (breeder: Sabine Decker, Burgwedel – exhibitor: Peter Wetzel, Eppendorf) was sold at Euro 60,000 to Sweden.
Connex by Contendro/Graf Grannus (breeder and exhibitor: Dr. Rainer Westphal, Dessau) was the most expensive show jumping horse, entering the auction ring directly after Werner. He was sold at Euro 37,000 to Schleswig-Holstein. “The market for Hanoverian show jumping horses is hardening, especially the market for well-bred horses descending from first-class dam lines,” auction manager Dr. Guenther Friemel said.
The price level for the sold horses was fairly widespread. “Quality is still very important,” breeding manager Dr. Werner Schade said. It was already obvious during the auction training that there was a huge demand for the different requirements. The extensive advertising campaigns of the Hanoverian Society in Germany and abroad proved to have a positive effect. Customers came especially from those countries in which Hanoverian horse breeders clubs were founded in the last months. Three Hanoverian horses were purchased by Danish customers, each two by Finish and Italian customers. The biggest number of horses will move to Great Britain (8 horses), followed by Spain (five horses) and France (four horses). Export quota was 47%.
